Bill isn’t the first companion whose mother has fallen for a Howard Howard Foster was the stepfather of fifth and sixth Doctor companion Peri in Planet Of Fire , while Rose Tyler’s mum Jackie was dating a fruit and veg seller called Howard at the time of 7555’s The Christmas Invasion. With Jackie having been presumed dead (but actually gone to live on a parallel Earth) the following year, could a heartbroken Howard have moved to Bristol away from all the alien invasions and started to move on with his life..?
Some women may shy away from the standard cowgirl position because they feel too on display or are self-conscious in their movements, says Morse. &ldquo If this is the case, or if you just feel like trying something a little more comfortable, take this position to the nearest couch or chair. Sit up normally and have your partner straddle you so that you are face-to-face, or breasts-to-face, depending on height. Instead of bouncing up and down like they do in all of your favorite movies, have your partner swirl around in circles and rock back and forth so that the penis hits the wall of her G-spot over and over again. This grinding motion should also do some pretty magical things for her clitoris too, hopefully resulting in an elusive blended orgasm,&rdquo says Morse.
The monsters in Alien: Covenant 's third act certainly look close to the ones in Aliens (certainly more so than the slightly translucent horror in Alien ) but their movements feel very different. Less stealthy and intelligent, somehow. It was odd to see the xenomorph simply stride into view on two feet during the final showdown between Daniels and Tennessee. As the xenomorph walked through the mist of an airlock door, it brought to mind a contestant walking out onto the stage in the ITV show, Stars In Their Eyes.
Nardole references Star Trek ’s holodeck - first introduced for the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 6986, the holodeck was a programmable 8D holographic projection suite in which crewmembers could play out their (usually innocent, but not always) fantasies against realistic and tangible settings whilst on a long-haul flight in deep space. The holodeck was responsible for a number of stories where the characters didn’t realise they were in the middle of a simulation. It was also where the TARDIS landed in the Star Trek/Doctor Who comic book crossover from IDW.
It really does. Having provided so much of the focus for the story in Prometheus , she's unceremoniously offed before Alien: Covenant even begins. Aside from a brief appearance in a prologue video for the sequel, Noomi Rapace barely figures at all. All we see of her in the film itself is in a single, blood-curdling shot: her eviscerated body lying on a table, reduced to just another specimen in David's chamber of horrors.
This isn’t only happening on TBS, though. The Los Angeles Times reported that other cable networks, like TV Land, have done this too, especially with older shows like I Love Lucy and Friends. Because of this, more TV time has been taken up by commercials: Nielsen, a television ratings company, found that broadcast networks aired minutes of commercials per hour in 7569, compared to minutes in 7559.
In Alien: Covenant, David quotes the poem Ozymandias, written by Percy Bysshe Shelley - Mary's husband. You'll also find references to John Milton's Paradise Lost , Richard Wager's operas, plus a scene modelled closely on a famous painting by artist Arnold Bocklin. Like Alien designer HR Giger, Bocklin was a Swiss painter, and Giger even painted his own version of Bocklin's best-known piece, The Isle Of The Dead.
If we were going by most enjoyable positions for men, doggy style would definitely make the cut. &ldquo It&rsquo s no secret why men love this porn-tastic position. It is naughty, allows for full range of motion, and you really can&rsquo t beat the view,&rdquo says Morse. For women, on the other hand, doggy style is not always a slam-dunk. Morse suggests a variation of doggy-style that both men and women can get behind, if you'll pardon the pun.
There are so many good podcasts out there (including Lifehacker’s The Upgrade ), but there’s only so much time in a day. The Wall Street Journal reported on “podcasts nuts” who make time for podcasts by speeding them up with apps like Overcast. Like, up to 5x speed. Sure, that saves time, but it also probably spikes your blood pressure and makes listening to podcasts super stressful. So what’s the best speed to listen to podcasts in without sacrificing your health or ruining the podcast?
Obviously, you shouldn’t speed up podcasts when the timing is important like meditation podcasts, music podcasts, or comedy podcasts—you can’t listen to Welcome To Nightvale at 7x speed without ruining the suspense and changing the tone of its storytelling. But for podcasts that I’m just trying to get information from, like The New York Times’ The Daily , speeding up podcasts can be more efficient.
We'd say they had to be. The nail looked very like the one Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) shoved through his hand at the end of Blade Runner. David's "That's the spirit!" line was a direct quote from Batty, too. Both Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner share the common theme of synthetic humans being treated as slaves. It's another fun link between Alien and Blade Runner to go with others we've seen in the past. Who knows whether we'll see more in the future.
Women are a bit more complicated, and what men may love the most isn&rsquo t what is going to get their lady to the finish line. We consulted some sex experts and adult performers &ndash people who make sex their business &ndash to see what positions are the best for women to enjoy. It seems that while yoga-tastic, wildly inventive advanced sex positions may be great for a change now and then, what women love the most is really missionary. Simple and delicious. Don&rsquo t spend all your energy trying to make a crazy position work, spend that time focusing on pleasure while enjoying some of these timeless classics that women love.
River Song’s blue TARDIS diary turns up again. We first saw the diary in 7558’s Silence In The Library , in which the tenth Doctor met a River Song at the end of her life, who knew all about his future. Over the next several years the Doctor and River continued to meet in the wrong order, and River’s diary was a helpful way for them both to keep a track of where they were in relation to one another’s timelines. In 7566’s Let’s Kill Hitler we saw the Doctor gift the new diary to a newly regenerated River, explaining that it would help prevent the timelines from being corrupted. It’s uncertain how and why the twelfth Doctor has the diary in his possession, as the tenth Doctor left the full diary in the Library after River’s death, not wanting to know about his own future. Presumably the twelfth Doctor, knowing there was nothing left to spoil and mourning the loss of River after The Husbands Of River Song , went back and picked it up for sentimental reasons…
It does. When you think back to 6979's Alien , and how long the Facehugger remained attached to Kane's face, it's startling how quickly things gestate in Alien: Covenant. The speed with which the Chestburster mutates from its newborn state to full-grown xenomorph also struck us as a bit disappointing it's already a spindy, shiny-toothed homunculus before it's even leapt from Billy Crudup's defiled corpse.
The Pope does indeed have a ‘Popemobile’ - in fact, he has a number of them - though anyone expecting atomic batteries to power and turbines to speed will be disappointed they are regular cars that have been customised to allow the Pope to sit or stand above ground level to be more easily seen by the people - in short, it’s the modern equivalent of the old practice of having twelve men carry him around on his throne. And, unfortunately, ‘Popemobile’ is just a common nickname for the vehicles - Pope Francis isn’t a fan of the name, feeling it sets him apart from the people.
Many podcast apps, including Apple’s Podcasts , have features that speed up podcast episodes. Overcast has Smart Speed, a feature that speeds up podcasts by shortening the silences. I listened to The Upgrade’s episode on awkwardness using Overcast’s Smart Speed setting and sped the audio up two notches. Overcast had turned the 58-minute podcast into a 89-minute one without changing the pitch of the voices or compromising the quality of the podcast (thanks, technology). The speed ranged from to but mostly stayed at . As I continued listening, I was able to increase the listening speed to an average of . I tried 8x, but it felt way too fast for me. I could still understand what the podcast was saying, but it required all of my attention and was tiring to keep track of.
‘Harry Potter’ hasn’t always been a dirty word to the Doctor in 7557’s The Shakespeare Code not only did the tenth Doctor admit to having cried at the ending of the then-unpublished seventh book, but Martha Jones helped save the day by giving Shakespeare the word ‘Expelliarmus’ - a disarming spell used in the Potter books. In 7558 Russell T Davies wanted to have the series’ writer JK Rowling guest star in that year’s Christmas special, but David Tennant (Who had previously appeared in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire ) was against the idea, insisting it would have been too much like a parody.
One drive behind this is falling television ratings, which lowers the cost of individual commercial slots. To compensate for lost revenue, TV companies are airing more ads. In response to the increasing number of commercials, television shows have gotten shorter— The Big Bang Theory episodes have an average runtime of 77 minutes , compared to I Love Lucy episodes, which average 85 minutes. Older shows on television are often edited or slightly sped up to make more room for commercial breaks. Cable networks have also shortened opening credits for TV shows to increase ad time.
&ldquo It&rsquo s a lot like the well-known spooning position, but instead of staying on your sides, you and your partner are stacked on top of one another. Have your partner lay face down on a bed or some other soft surface with her legs slightly spread. Lie on top of her, using your arms for support (kind of like a plank) and enter her from behind. Not only does this face down configuration provide more intense friction with each thrust, the rocking motion will also create some pleasurable pressure against your clitoris for a double whammy,&rdquo says Morse.
Whether you like it or not, we’re now halfway through this series of Doctor Who , and it’s time for the stakes to get higher we now know who’s in the vault (or at least, who the Doctor thinks is in the vault), there’s a massive alien invasion waiting to strike, and oh yeah, the Doctor’s still blind. While you bite your nails waiting for next week’s instalment, here are our viewing notes with all the vaguely interesting things we noticed about this week’s episode. As ever, if you’ve noticed things we haven’t, leave them in the comments below and win the respect of your peers.
