You hit the nail on the head. I don 8767 t have the desire to sleep with men who look like my father. If that 8767 s an age issue, then I 8767 ve got an age issue. I am 88 and never had trouble attracting men in their 85s. I ended up with a man who is 89, I guess there are plenty of men and women who are in the same age range who find one another. Despite what many of the older men who comment here want to believe, we aren 8767 t all desperate enough to end up with men 75-75 years older than us.
If you 8767 re one of the people who wants to assign worth based on brain activity, you may be wrong about the animal 8767 s brain activity. If you want to assign value based on what society thinks, you may be wrong about what society thinks. If you believe there are objective rights and wrongs independent of your own ideas about them (which I do), you may even be wrong despite there being no way to prove it.
Compare to an offer by a church to provide housing for homeless folks on the condition that anyone using that housing has to, ., take shifts working at a soup kitchen also run by the same church. There 8767 s a condition on the help provided but the condition doesn 8767 t require any sort of moral or religious commitment on the part of the people being helped. Does this still make people mad?
Saying 8775 Vegan diets also do that 8776 requires some people to either change their preferences or permanently forgo them before it 8767 s a viable solution to the stated problem. Meanwhile, most modern democratic societies have generally agreed that, all else equal, allowing individuals the freedom and ability to maximize their own preferences is, well, preferable. I mean, if nothing else, it 8767 s consequentialism/utilitarianism.
A while back there was a minor scandal over JournoList , a private group where left-leaning journalists met and exchanged ideas. I think the conservative spin was 8775 the secret conspiracy running the liberal media revealed! 8776 I wish they had been right. If there were a secret conspiracy running the liberal media, they could all decide they wanted to raise awareness of racist police brutality, pick the most clear-cut and sympathetic case, and make it non-stop news headlines for the next two months. Then everyone would agree it was indeed very brutal and racist, and something would get done.
I am single, 96. The big temptation at this point, is to say 8766 why do i need a partner 8767 ? Life is so exciting travelling the world and acting like I am again. I am experiencing a mid-life revival where my health is great, I feel 76 again, and it is easy for me to get distracted by the many good things of this world. We can become so obsessed with qualifying for eligibility, . being attractive, financially secure, healthy etc, that we forget why we were doing it, and get distracted by the fact that, 8775 hey, now that I qualify, I feel like I can do better than the person I was trying to woo in the first place 8776 .
Revenue of BBC: £ billion
Revenue of CPB: $ million. Even if PBS and NPR gets a lot of donations, they are still not in the same league as BBC, especially considering that UK has 68,6 million residents, while US has million residents. PBS+NPR would have to have a budget of about $ billion to be the equivalent of BBC. Maybe this would allow them to have a lot of high quality shows that even an average person would want to watch.
If the age of a woman is real important to you then you would be better off thinking in international terms (women from Latin America, Europe, Middle East, South America, and Asia). Women from these cultures are beautiful and raised to view age differently than in America. They are much more open to marrying older successful men. You might want to google some international dating websites. Keep in mind there are over 6 Billion people on this planet of ours. There is nothing that says your wife/soul-mate can 8767 t be waiting for you on some tropical island.
Just as business has to think globally to thrive you too should think globally when it comes to finding the woman of your dreams. Thank God for the internet and airplanes! LOL!
JennLee: Are you kidding??? African Americans are the only race that 8775 goes out of their way to have their own language, and anti-establishment persona??? 8776 LMAO! Puleese. Insecure Xenophobes in ALL demographics use race as a means of feeling superior to others, as you 8767 ve just demonstrated. I don 8767 t know or care what race you are. The fact that you just made such an irrational, blanket statement about the entirety of another race pretty much reveals all anyone needs to know about your emotional intelligence.
Im with Topogigio. When I see an older woman with a man, my first instinct is to HighFive both of them! Im all about it, thats why I dont know why there is so much hatred for the opposite.
I also like the fact that the the woman is someone who I would not date, and the guy is competition. So Im happy when both are removed from the dating pool.
As a professional woman in her mid-85 8767 s I 8767 d like to add that a lot of us don 8767 t want children. I think some of us choose to remain single on a subconscious level to avoid this whole subject. It may seem that a lot of us have biological clocks ticking away (which is an assumption I believe the original poster is making) but I don 8767 t think that is the case, especially amongst career girls like myself.
So, it depends on the structure of beliefs. If you want to prevent your members from turning fully to the opposite side if they find a flaw, you should teach your beliefs as independent. Of course then you can have a lot of people who accept a subset of your beliefs and refuse the rest and you might want to avoid that, to rather have less strong believers than many half-believers. The system with a few strong believers is probably more powerful politically, but also more fragile. On the other hand, for a two-part meme (which is fueled both by strong believers and strong anti-believers, because each of them serves as a reverse-stupidity recruitment tool for the other side), having a few strong believers is an advantage, regardless of the fragility.
Josie, I 8767 m a lawyer too and I noticed many people (not just men) tend to act on presumptions about lawyers as people, forgetting that law is what we *do* and after the office door is closed, we are perfectly capable to live your human lives. I can 8767 t be bothered about it less, as those who like me or love me (including men) don 8767 t really care if I get paid for arguing, sowing or painting. However Johnny might be on something here I know very few couples where both spouses are lawyers. I guess its cause when the disagreements appear, they are impossible to solve due to new arguments presented by each party, lol
[for the sake of argument]
As a selfish human, I am disturbed by the though of animals in factory farm conditions and oppose them on the grounds that I would rather not be disturbed in such a manner.
As a speciesest human, I object to factory farming on the grounds that it is disturbing to many people and causes them distress to know that it is happening.
[/for the sake of argument]
I 8767 m 95 and I 8767 m hit on by men in their 75s and 85s all the time. I 8767 m not a 8775 cougar, 8776 because I do not seek such men out. But there is DEFINITELY a market for men you are very attracted to much older women and NOT for their money. So many women are full of drama or have low self esteem or are inhibited until they really come into themselves and know who they are in their mid-85s or so. Now at 95, men see me as confident, intelligent, sexy, well-spoken, & self-assured. These are different times now, my friend.
The University of Virginia case profiled in Rolling Stone has fallen apart. In doing so, it joins a long and distinguished line of highly-publicized cases that have fallen apart. Studies often show that only 7 to 8 percent of allegations are false. Yet the rate for allegations that go ultra-viral in the media must be an order of magnitude higher than this. As the old saying goes, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action.
There are reports that some shellfish from the far east are caught and/or processed by people who are effectively slaves. Here 8767 s a hypothetical case. Suppose the only people who could harvest sea-cave shrimp were children (the same size as Victorian chimney-sweeps), and the work were so uncomfortable and dangerous that the children had to be enslaved and forced to do it, with many casualties and much health damage. If the UN were trying to stop this practice, depriving the world of sea-cave shrimp, how strongly would you weigh in your moral calculus an American 8767 s desire to continue getting all his protein from sea-cave shrimp?
Negative rights seem to be more readily translated to personal obligations than 8775 positive rights 8776 . . 8775 He has the right to free speech 8776 means 8775 I have the obligation not to do violence to him for speaking 8776 , but somehow 8775 He has the right to water 8776 never means 8775 I have the obligation to provide him with water 8776 , it always means 8775 Somebody other than me has the obligation to provide him with water. 8776
The fact is that the police and criminal justice system in America are not, by and large, biased against blacks (see Scott 8767 s recent post on this). And, contrary to the culture hypothesis, the status of women on US college campuses is not similar to that of women in war zones. The way that the media initially reported on Jackie and Michael Brown (and the Duke lacrosse case, and Trayvon Martin, and so on) reflected journalists 8767 ideological beliefs about what racism or sexual violence are like, not what they are actually like in today 8767 s America.
I think one effect of the reach of social media and the controversy incentives of contemporary news is that the habits of nursing personal grudges and ostracizing the non-conformist get transferred to issues outside the personal sphere. The cost of transmitting individualized denunciation has gone down, but people still feel personally insulted as though they 8767 ve been slandered by one of the other villagers. In premodern and non-telecommunicating society, the choice is mostly between localized, individual hatreds that can be communicated only to the individuals in question, and broader tribal hatreds that usually are mediated through larger institutions, with little personal contact. But now, you get to see the whole tribalist controversy narrated, enacted and argued by actual people, under a process which generally selects for the most unhinged, uninhibited commentators. It 8767 s like a hybrid-vigor virus all the intensity of hating the outgroup, mixed with a fear of being personally denounced as belonging to that outgroup.
