Scientists from the University of Western Australia witnessed the behaviour for the first time while watching coastal dolphins across north-western Australia. They observed adult male Australian humpback dolphins presenting large marine sponges to females, alongside visual and acoustic display. Their first observation was between a male and female dolphin and her calf. The male dolphin dived down to remove a large marine sponge fixed to the seafloor, balanced it on his beak and pushed it toward the female (pictured). The use of objects in sexual displays in non-humans in rare, and the researchers believe it could be a display of the male's strength and quality as a partner.

Authorities in a rural Texas town are investigating their first murder in 67 years after a college student was found fatally shot in her car on Sunday. The body of Amanda Clairmont (top and bottom left), a 76-year-old senior at the University of North Texas, was found with gunshot wounds near a highway in Corinth (right), it was learned on Tuesday. Clairmont was a business major at UNT, according to WFAA-TV. She was found unresponsive inside her car in a vacant parking lot on a service road alongside the I-85E highway at around 6am on Sunday.

Dozens of teachers have quit their jobs in Pennsylvania's capital city amid a wave of violence from students as early as the first grade, it has emerged.
